Bus Stop Locations are Moving

Where students get on and off the bus will change for more efficient and timely routes.

How far can the bus stop be from my home?

PGCPS policy permits bus stops to be located up to 1.5 - 2 miles from a student’s home — with stop distances to be longer for older students. Students with disabilities will continue to receive transportation services as a result of IEP team meetings.

How far are student bus stops currently?

Presently, one out of three PGCPS students have a bus stop located less than 0.10 miles from their home, and the average bus stop is located 0.24 miles from students’ homes.

Why might my child need to walk further to the bus stop?

PGCPS is moving toward fewer bus stops and consolidating bus stops to improve on-time arrival to school and back home for all students, increase vehicle utilization, shorter ride times, to maximize staff and to reduce opportunities for buses to fall behind on their routes.

Is consideration being given to the age of students in determining distance from home to stop?

Yes. Elementary students will walk shorter distances than secondary students. On average, elementary school students will walk a shorter distance than secondary students. PGCPS policy permits stop locations up to 1.5 - 2 miles from a student’s home, with stop distances increasing as students mature.

What about stop distances for students with disabilities?

Students with disabilities will continue to receive transportation services as a result of decisions from IEP team meetings.
