FY25 Requested Operating Budget Unanimously Approved By Board Of Education, Advances to County Council

UPPER MARLBORO, MD — The Board of Education’s FY 2025 Requested Operating Budget for Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) has been unanimously approved. The $2.8 billion budget focuses on educational and operational improvement, aligns with Board priorities and supports the PGCPS Transformation 2026 Strategic Plan.

PGCPS Superintendent Millard House II along with the Board have carefully considered the input of many stakeholders. Three public budget hearings and three public work sessions were held during January and February as the Board of Education deliberated adoption and submission of its budget request.

Superintendent House highlighted the unique challenges faced during the budget cycle, emphasizing factors such as declining enrollment for the Foundation State Aid Program, smaller increases in per-pupil funding, a funding mandate for Blueprint Phase II schools, and the expiration of COVID relief ESSER funds.

The budget will now be included in the County Executive’s budget review process for the entire county, with approval by Prince George’s County Council by June 1st and reconciled changes going through a final vote by the Board in June.
