• Thursday, March 22 - Code Orange - Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) – Schools and offices will open with a two hour delay. EMERGENCY PERSONNEL must report to work on time and are not eligible for liberal leave.

    • There will be no work-study transportation. (Those students should not report to school.)
    • There will be no half-day Early Childhood Center (ECC), half-day Special Education Programs, or half-day PreK.
    • Any other school program requiring transportation prior to 12 noon will NOT have transportation, including Howard B. Owens Science Center,JA Finance Park, and William S. Schmidt Center (Camp Schmidt)
    • All field trips will be cancelled.
    • Food Services will offer breakfast.
    We will re-evaluate at 6:30am.

  • Background

    This is our 13th year, the Prince George's Chamber of Commerce partners with Prince George's County Public Schools to host Principal for a Day.  The goal of Principal for a Day is to establish active business partnerships in every public school to help meet specific needs or provide enrichment opportunities above and beyond the core curriculum.  Interested members of the business community are encouraged to take part.     Thank you for considering to serve as a Principal for a Day in the Prince George's County Public School system.  Once your on-line registration is complete you will receive confirmation and the principal at the selected school will receive notification of the match.  We encourage you to talk to the principal of your assigned school before visiting to discuss plans and activities for the day.  This time will include opportunities to shadow the principal, talk with faculty and observe and/or participate in other school activities.  You may be encouraged to speak with a class or a larger group of students about your work and the activities that most engage your time.  If you attended the school you may be asked to reflect on your experiences as a student there or at another school in the Prince George's County Public School system.  

    Other activities may include the following:

    • Meet with your assigned principal for a least 20 minutes to brainstorm how you and your business can stay involved in the school
    • Greet students upon arrival
    • Have breakfast and/or lunch in the cafeteria with the students and/or faculty
    • Deliver morning announcements over the P.A.
    • Tour the school
    • Visit the classrooms and participate in class discussions
    • Visit the technology labs
    • Watch a student performance or presentation
    • Participate in playground activities
    • Read books to students
    • Visit the after-school program
    • Bring vocabulary words that relate to your occupation
    • Speak at an assembly regarding career paths
    • Assist in the supervision of the dismissal of students
