Mandatory Uniform Policy

The Brandywine Elementary School Uniform Committee (Committee) has formulated the student dress policy for Brandywine Elementary School in accordance to the Prince George’s County Public Schools System Wide Dress Code for Students (Policy 5152).  Uniforms can be purchased from any department stores, discount stores, and local uniform shops.  Students are expected to dress appropriately in the school uniform each day (Monday through Friday). Students must adhere to this policy with no exception.  The mandatory uniform policy is as follows: 

UNIFORMS ARE MANDATORY

  • (Grades K-2)
    Light Blue or White Collard Tops
    NAVY BLUE Bottoms (only)

  • (Grades 3-5)
    Light Blue or White Collard Tops
    KHAKI TAN Bottoms (only)

  • SOCKS/TIGHTS: White, Navy Blue, or Black (no bright colors)

  • BELTS: Black, Tan, or Brown

  • Sweaters: Blue, Black or White (no hoodies)

  • Shoes: Solid White, Black, or Navy Blue (no bright colors, open toed sandals or heels.

PROHIBITED CLOTHING AND ITEMS

  • ALL UNIFORMS MUST COMPLY WITH PGCBOE RULES AS IT RELATES TO LENGTH OF SKIRTS ENSURING THAT ALL PANTS FIT ON THE WAIST. IN ADDITION TO THE PGCPS RULES, THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE PROHIBITED ON OR VISIBLE TO THE MANDATORY UNIFORM POLICY
  • NO EMBLEMS OR LOGO ON SHIRTS, POLOS, CARDIGAN SWEATERS OR JACKETS
  • NO COLORFUL SOCKS, SHOES, OR SWEATERS ARE PERMITTED. NO HOODIES ARE PERMITTED.
  • CELLULAR PHONES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO BE VISIBLE OR POWERED ON DURING SCHOOL HOURS OR WHILE ON THE PROPERTY OF PGCPS.
  • NO SANDALS, FLIP FLOPS, OR OPEN TOE SHOES
  • NO WESTERN STYLE BOOTS, CONSTRUCTION BOOTS, OR HIKING BOOTS
  • ALL HATS ARE TO BE REMOVED UPON ENTERING THE BUILDING
  • NO BANDANNAS, “DOO RAGS”, OR SCARVES ARE TO BE WORN AT ANYTIME
  • EXCEPTIONS TO THE UNIFORM POLICY FOR RELIGIOUS PRACTICES WILL BE CONSIDERED
  • NO SKELETONS OR DEROGATORY STATEMENTS OR PICTURES PERMITTED ON ANY CLOTHING OR MATERIAL AT ANYTIME
  • MEDICAL ALERT BRACELETS AND NECKLACES ARE PERMITTED

NON-COMPLIANCE WITH UNIFORM POLICY

  • FIRST VIOLATION-PARENT CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE UNIFORM VIOLATION
  • SECOND VIOLATION-WRITTEN NOTIFICATION IS SENT HOME TO INFORM THE PARENT/GUARDIAN OF THE UNIFORM VIOLATION.
  • THIRD VIOLATION- DETENTION
  • FOURTH VIOLATION- PARENT/TEACHER/STUDENT/ADMINISTRATOR CONFERENCE
  • FIFTH VIOLATION- STUDENT IS REMOVED FROM THE CLASS FOR ONE (1) FULL DAY AND COMPLETES ASSIGNMENTS

Fabric and styles that are not permitted:  

  • Electronic/sparkling belts 
  • Stretch or form-fitting clothing 
  • Baggy pants 
  • Denim-jeans, pants, jackets 
  • Cargo or painter pants 
  • Cargo shorts 
  • Hooded clothing of any type or style 
  • Cropped shirts 
  • Buttonless v-neck or sleeveless shirts or blouses 
  • Oversized sweatshirts or sweaters 
  • Sunglasses 
  • Suspenders 
  • T-shirts of any type, including colored T-shirts under the uniform shirts 
  • Flip-flops, slippers, or sandals 
  • Athletic wear, sweat bands 
  • Beads, beaded necklaces, broaches or large pendant jewelry 
  • Backpacks, book bags, or large purses cannot be worn during the school day 
  • Bandannas, 
  • Logos, designer items, plaids, and writing on clothes. 

Benefits 

The benefits of adopting this Policy ranges from improved academic performance to enhanced security for our children:

  1. Enables the student to focus on schoolwork and reduce peer pressure and distraction to compete with those who has the latest fashion; thus creating a uniformed environment for all children.
  2. Reduces disciplinary actions that result in conflict that occurs as a result of competition about clothing.
  3. Reduces cost for school clothes and eliminates the hassle each day for what to wear.
  4. Enhances Security – Security officials can quickly recognize those who do not belong on campus.
