Codes and Policies

We, the members of the Prince George’s County Public Schools Board of Education, are committed to providing your child a safe school environment conducive to learning. The Students Rights and Responsibilities handbook explains student expectations and behaviors which might require disciplinary action. Additionally, procedures for suspension, expulsion, and rights of appeal and/or review are discussed.

Violation of any school or classroom rules may result in detention, parent/guardian shadowing or for sever violations, suspension.

Early Departures

The Early Departure must be completed prior to 1:15 PM. Please assist the administrative team and the teacher prior to your arrival for early dismissal.

Emergency Closing of Schools

In case it should become necessary to close school because of inclement weather, bad road conditions or any other emergency, which might arise, an announcement will be broadcast over local radio and television stations. Also, a "robo call" will go out.  Be sure that you maintain a current telephone number with the secretary.  PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL OR ANY OF THE RADIO STATIONS FOR INFORMATION. This will flood the switchboards with calls and make it impossible for the officials to communicate.

Field Trips

Students must return a permission slip signed by the parent/guardian(s) to his/her teacher. If a field trip slip is not returned the student will not be permitted to attend the field trip. The cost of the trip must be paid to the teacher who is sponsoring the trip. The Student Code of Conduct will be enforced. The uniform code will also be enforced, unless otherwise noted by the sponsor.

Visitation

Visitors Policy

Why: A Visitors Policy is a vital component of ensuring the safety and security of students, parents, and teachers. Its goal is to promote a culture where administrators, teachers, staff, and community members recognize and report any and all suspicious or improper behavior and where individuals are held accountable for ensuring the safety of students in our care.

Entering the Building

All visitors are required to enter a school building through the front exterior electronic access entry doors equipped with a video intercom system. This entrance at Tayac ES is the main entrance. When visiting the school the following steps must be taken:

  1. The visitor must ring the buzzer.
  2. At the ringing of the buzzer, the visitor will state their name and purpose for your visit. (This interaction must be done through the video intercom system.) Please place your State Identification or PGCPS Employee Badge up to the camera screen and keep your ID available. The visitor will sign-in using the visitor’s handbook and then enter the main office.

Parent Visitors with No Appointment

If the visitor is a parent and doesn’t have an appointment,  a member of the front office staff will meet them at the front door. If they are picking up for early dismissal, a front office staff member will take their State ID to verify that they are allowed to pick up the child.

Visitor not Verified

If verification can not be made, the visitors can not be given any information about the child and the principal/principal’s designee should be contacted immediately. The principal/principal's designee will contact the parent to inform them of the visitor.

Visitor Verified

If the verification is made, you can speak to the visitor about the child. The visitors State ID must be entered through the Raptor System. The visitor will receive a white sticker that must be visible while in the building. (Note: If the visitor is not wearing a white sticker, they have not been verified by the main office and should not be in the building.

Visitor Dropping off Items

The visitor that is dropping off something to the student must be verified. Once verification is made, the office staff should take the item and deliver the item to the student. If the verification is not made, the visitor will be told that outside items can not be taken from them.  Visitors are not allowed further than the main office and they should always be in the presence of a Tayac ES employee.  Visitors are not allowed to enter the building without an appointment.

 Tayac Academy Dismissal Procedures

Attention Parents or Guardians;>

This is to inform you of our drop off and pick up procedures at Tayac Academy. By following these procedures, you are doing your part in helping to keep all of our students safe while they enter and exit the school building

AM Drop Off

  • We highly recommend using the driveway located between Tayac and Isaac Gourdine Middle School. This driveway can be accessed by pulling around the back of the middle school,  following it around until you reach the pull off area. Parents are permitted to park in this location and walk their children to the school via the stairs that connect Tayac to Isaac Gourdine. This is our preferred method of AM drop off when factoring in traffic congestion on Allentown Road and flexibility for the parents.
  • Parents may use the school parking lot to drop off as well. Many factors must be taken into consideration if you chose this option. This option is generally more time consuming than our preferred method due to the unpredictable traffic patterns on Allentown Road. Cars may only enter through the parking lot entrance. The semi-circle is for School Bus Unloading only. Parents may not use this entrance to drop off their students. Upon arrival in the parking lot, cars will make an immediate right following the flow of cars around the lot. Parents will then drop off their students once they reach the sidewalk that connects to the parking lot. This must be done in a brisk fashion in order to avoid congestion. Parents who drop off within the school parking lot are not permitted to leave their vehicles. Cars will wait in line and follow the exit instructions given by the School crossing guard.
  • PM Pick Up
  • Parents must use the driveway located between Tayac and Isaac Gourdine Middle School for all afternoon pick-ups. Please refer to the above recommended AM drop off instructions on how to use this in the afternoon. After parking, parents may pick up their students as they exit the school building from the side entrance. Parents of primary grade level students must let their student’s teacher/staff member know that they have received their student.
  • Our school parking lot will only be used for Vans/Small Buses of after school programs or daycares. Due to the large number of students that are picked up by these programs in the afternoon, the parking lot will be reserved for these Vans/Small Buses only.
  • The semi-circle located in front of the school is reserved for PGCPS School Buses Only during dismissal. Parents may not enter the semi-circle between 130-220 PM.
  • Our school location is on a very busy Allentown Road, as such drop offs and pick ups can be challenging. Please remember that keeping our students safe during arrival and dismissal is the most important factor when it comes to determining these procedures. We thank you for taking the time to read these Arrival/Dismissal procedures.
