3. When and where is the GED Test given?
The new two-day, ten-hour GED 2002 Test will be given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month. Prince George's County's only testing center will be Parkdale High School. The test begins at 5:00 pm and ends at 10:00 pm both Tuesday and Wednesday night. Report to Room 241.

of Maryland requires a minimum of 2500 as the total score.

Rescheduling/retesting
requires a waiting period of approximately two months. You may take the test a maximum
of three times per year. Three different test forms are available and
you must use a different form each time you take the test. You must pay
the $45.00 scheduling fee each time you take the test or reschedule.
9. How soon after taking the test will I get my test results?
Test results will be
mailed four weeks after you take the test. Please do not phone the GED
Office for test score information. In accordance with the Privacy Act
(Buckley Amendment), scores may not be released over the telephone or
faxed.
10. Can I take the GED Test in Spanish?
You may take all but the
Writing Skills Test in Spanish. You must take the Writing Skills
Test in English. This includes multiple choice questions and writing an
essay in English. If you wish to take the Spanish language form of the
GED Test, attach a written request to your application.

12. Can I take the GED Test in D.C.?
Call 202-274-7175 for
information on Washington D.C. testing or ABE/GED classes in the
District. D.C. only accepts D.C. residents for tests or
retests. Payment and registration must be completed two days prior to
exam day. The GED Practice Test is ONLY given on Wednesday, Thursday and
Saturday in D.C. Scores required for passing are the same in D.C. as in
Maryland.
13. Do colleges and military services accept GED diplomas?
All Maryland colleges
except Johns Hopkins University accept GED diplomas. The University of
Maryland requires a passing score of 2500. Each military branch has
different qualifications. Check with your recruiter.
14. I have a diploma, but my school records are not available. Can I take the GED Test?
A high school graduate
may take the GED Test and be awarded a diploma only when proof of graduation
in unobtainable. Each case is considered separately, and permission to
take the test is granted only in exceptional cases.
15. I took and passed three of the five parts of the GED Test in another state. Now that I am a Maryland resident, can I complete the test in Maryland and will I receive credit for the tests I have already passed?
Test results are valid
and may be applied for credit toward the Maryland High School Diploma only if
they were taken after January 1, 2002 at an official GED testing
center. Partial scores on tests take before January 1, 2002 will not
apply toward the GED 2002 Test. If you took the test in another state,
after January 1, 2002, have an official copy of your test scores sent to the
Maryland GED Office directly from the test center where credit was
earned.
16. Should I take the GED Practice Test?
Yes! The GED
Practice Test is recommended by not required The cost for this six-hour,
two-night timed test is $10.00. Check the Practice Test Schedule for
dates and times. When you finish the test it will be scored
and your results will be explained by a counselor. Call
301-408-7930 for the schedule or to register for the test.
OR
Take the GED Practice Test at any
Prince George's County Public Library without an appointment. Allow
yourself 4 1/2 hours for this test. You will need an ID, #2 pencils, and
scrap paper. Submit completed answer sheet by mail with a $5.00 money
order. Results will be mailed to you within four weeks.
17. Are classes required before taking the GED Test?
Preparation is
recommended but not required.
18. How
can I prepare to take the GED Test?
19. Where and When are daytime ABE, PreGED, GED, and ESL classes offered?
Daytime classes are offered at Bladensburg Instructional Center, 5150 Annapolis Road, Bladensburg, MD. Ten week semesters begin the first week of October and the first week of February. Registration for these classes is from 9 - 12 noon on the last Mondays of September and January. Classes fill quickly, so come early to register. Dates may vary so call 301-985-1780 early in September to verify schedule.

21. What are the fees for classes?
Tuition is set each year
by the Board of Education. Fees for the 2002/2003 academic year have been
set at $175 for GED and ESL 5 classes. Right now tuition is only charged
for GED, ESL level 5/6, and other special classes. There are no
tuition charges for ABE, PreGED and ESL 1 - 4 classes. Book prices vary
from and will be announced the first night of class. All fees must be paid
with a money order before the third class. No cash or checks!
