VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

BELTSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Tutor a child today and touch tomorrow !

Be INvolved! Join a team of vital tutor/mentors to increase student learning and future success!

Why? Beltsville Elementary School (formerly Beltsville Academic Center), a Prince George's County Public elementary School of 900 culturally diverse students in grades Pre-kindergarten through six, needs

volunteer tutor/mentors to help students one-on-one with reading and math.

How? Tutors work w/ students between 1 and 3 hours per week in the Reading Lab and/or in classrooms.

Specific training and materials are supplied.

When? From *September through May, during school hours between 7:45am & 1:45pm.

*Additional tutors needed all through the year since student referrals increase throughout school year.

Many government agencies and private businesses give employees weekly released time to volunteer in a school as part of PIE (Partners in Education). Talk to your supervisor. You and your supervisor may receive community service recognition for your participation.

Remember, all volunteer mileage & expenses are tax deductible!

Opportunities also exist for library, clerical, and classroom volunteers.

Computer tech advice, assistance, data entry, and equipment also urgently needed.

Tutor/Mentor T r a i n i n g for 2007-08 school year:

Choose one of the following training sessions: All sessions held in BES Reading Lab, room 112.

For beginning BES Tutors: Advanced training for experienced BES tutors:

** Wed., April 2 * * 12:30 – 2:00 pm

Friday, April 18 9:30 am – 12:00 ** Friday, April 18 * * 12:30 – 2:00 pm

** Experienced tutors are really encouraged to sign up for these advanced sessions for Read Naturally computer rdg program.

Since the training is more meaningful if you have actually observed & started tutoring,
