A Message from the Parent Liaison

 

SURPRISE! SURPRISE! SURPRISE!  Make a surprise visit to your child’s classroom and you too will be surprised.

Surprise! Is the look on many of our students faces when their parents make “unexpected visits” to their child’s classroom.  The students are totally unaware that their parents are going to visit. This is a typical reaction from a student because the student does not have time to put on their “best behavior” personality.

Just ask our students. On January 29, 2008, one mother came to the school with the intent of  leaving some money for her daughter in the main office.  As the school based  Parent Liaison, I asked her if she wanted to take a “surprise visit” to her daughter’s classroom.  She agreed. Her mother stood outside the classoom, peeking through the classroom window.  The daughter was unaware of her mom’s presence.  After a 5 minute observation, the mother made herself visible.    

What a Surprise! The look on her daughter’s face was as if she had seen a ghost. The students had been assigned to watch a movie, some were watching and the others were quietly talking among themselves.  Her daughter was among those talking. The mother was neither pleased nor happy with this observation.

Needless, to say…her daughter had some explaining to do. 

As the school-based Parent Liaison, I highly recommend that parents make “surprise” visits to their child’s classroom and observe for yourself!  You too will be surprised.

This is what the mother had to say about her visit:  “It is very important for parents to have a school visit for their children.  It helps you to know the way your child behave while at school.”
