"Moving from the Subjunctive to the Declarative” Leaving No Child behind by any means necessary!

Congratulations! This fall your son or daughter became a member of the Class of 2013/2014! You, as parents, and we, as teachers, have a mutual obligation to assist the seventh and eighth grade students of Charles Carroll Middle School (CCMS) by preparing them for a successful future.  As new principal to CCMS, one of my primary goals as instructional leader is to improve the quality of your child’s middle school education, especially in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, and science.

Recent trends indicate that today’s workforce will demand even higher levels of competence. Students entering the job market after high school will find that in today’s technological society, only the most highly qualified graduates are hired. A carefully planned academic program is essential to future success in the world of work.

At CCMS, we will provide your child with a comprehensive academic program that contains the flexibility needed to meet your student’s individual needs. Please know, we cannot do it alone. Your interest, involvement support, and parental guidance have never been more important than they will be over the next two years as your child makes the transition from adolescence to young adult.

The rigors of high school and high stakes testing, coupled with the demands of the twenty-first century workforce, make the task of preparing our children for life daunting, but we can do it!  With commitment and resolve, teaching and learning can be an endless journey upon which the students of CCMS triumphantly travel.

Mr. Wood's Vision

The term “21st Century” should not be just another empty slogan or used as a convenient shorthand for an exciting future, a world very different from the present but it should urge immediate and radical change in schooling. Many futurists and reformers have warned that we should begin preparing students for life in an economically challenged, technology driven, and culturally diverse era. Educators should not only be aware but involved in the forthcoming revolution. Our profession reminds us of the daunting task set upon us; the intricate responsibility of equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed in a complex society. Our children are our businesses and our business is the Future! As Malcolm X stated, "The future belongs to those that prepare for it today".

It is my personal vision to maintain an unwavering commitment to provide children with a school environment that promotes and enhances personal and academic excellence. In order to accomplish this, we must ensure that the necessary steps are taken and resources are available which enhance the best, brightest, and most competent administrative and teaching staff.
