Chapel Forge offers educational programs as well as therapies designed to support the children in attaining their individualized educational program objectives. These therapies include speech and language, occupational, and physical therapies as well as itinerant vision and hearing services. The staff also includes a psychologist, a school counselor, nurses, motor development teachers, and assistive technology specialists. Infants are seen in their homes for educational services. There are small classes for toddlers through age four. Each class has a special educator and instructional assistant. During the 2006-2007 School Year, our center opened with 110 staff members.
Chapel Forge uses the Prince George's County Early Childhood Center Curriculum and Criterion Referenced Test as well as the Houghton Mifflin Pre-K curriculum. The program focuses on seven developmental domains: Social, Adaptive, Receptive Language, Expressive Language, Cognitive/Academic, Fine Motor, and Gross Motor. Monthly themes include: "Welcome to School", "My Family, My Community", "My Five Senses", "Seasons All Around", "Animals Everywhere, "Construction Zone", "In the City / In the Country", "Growing and Changing", "Ready for Kindergarten".
Student Population
Chapel Forge is one of five early childhood programs in the Prince George's
County Public School System which serve the needs of disabled children from
birth through age four. Currently there are approximately 350 disabled
children enrolled in our center. Thirty six children attend our Headstart class.
