LSN is designed with the purpose of providing students with a thorough understanding of our nation’s government. This 10 th grade course is broken down into several major themes. First, students explore in depth the need for and origins of government. This critical background knowledge then allows student to quickly move into study of the Constitution as well as citizen rights and responsibilities. Students will also have the opportunity in this course to examine the structure of our three branches of government in addition to the various facets of Domestic and Foreign Policy. A functional understanding of the structures and jobs of local and state government will be developed throughout each unit of the course.

The grading system for this course is based on Prince George’s County Social Studies Department policy as follows:

  • Tests/Mini Assessments (Quizzes)=40% of grade
  • Quarterly Benchmark Exams=15% of Grade
  • Written Assignments/Projects= 20%
  • Classwork/Class Participation/Preparation=10% of grade
  • Homework=15% of grade
