About Catherine T. Reed

Catherine T. Reed was a native of Prince George's County. She was an innovative educator who headed the new Greenbelt Elementary School when it was operated by the Federal Government. In the nineteen forties, she became an elementary supervisor for the Board of Education and was responsible for many improvements in the county school system. When she retired, she became a "House Mother" for a sorority at the University of Maryland. This school was being built when Mrs. Reed died, and the County decided to honor her by naming the school after her.
