 Program Description

The Special Education Early Childhood Center at Doswell E. Brooks follows a Tran disciplinary team model to deliver services to young children. The complex, multi-faceted developmental problems of young children with disabilities require that professionals from a variety of disciplines work cooperatively to provide integrated services. The program is a language-enriched curriculum, which focuses on classroom and non-classroom topics.

At the preschool level, the classroom teacher is recognized as the primary service provider who is responsible for working toward developmental goals identified in the Individual Education Program (IEP). The teacher is assigned this role because he/she has the greatest amount of direct involvement with the child.  We currently have three self-contained, half-day preschool classes and one (1)  Pre-kindergarten inclusion class for students with identified disabilities.

Related service providers are responsible for direct, indirect, or consultative service. This allows the teacher and other team members the ability to integrate strategies and methods within each of the child’s educational program.

Children access our preschool program from either the Infant and Toddler Referral Program (ages Birth through 2 years) at 301-265-8415 or the Child Find Referral Program ( ages 3 through 5 years) at 301-808-2719.
