Message from the Principal banner

CONGRATULATIONS to all of our students who made the Honor Roll this third marking period.  I also want to CONGRATULATE all of those students who showed improvement in their grades and GPA this past quarter.  I would like to thank each parent/guardian for making schoolwork and academic excellence a priority in the home.

It’s hard to believe that we are already into the final quarter of the school year.  Please take the time to review your child’s report card and discuss with him/her areas of success and areas where improvement is necessary.  Teachers are busy completing curriculum requirements and important evaluations needed for eventual student promotions and student retentions, where necessary.  8th grade students should be especially focused on academic progress, as we are in the process of meeting with high school counselors to plan academic programs for 9th grade.  Success in current courses, for 7th graders as well, has a large impact on course selection and availability for next year.  We expect all of our students to do and give their best everyday, so please be sure to encourage your child to stay focused on achieving academic excellence by completing all homework, turning in required projects and work, and demonstrating great behavior throughout the day.  Remember middle school students need consistent assistance with organization, planning, and follow-through.  They need your help to reach their maximum potential.

As we quickly approach the end of the year, now is the time to start locating any lost or damaged textbooks and media center books.  We will continue to issue Financial Obligations Forms to any student who owes monies to school for lost or damaged books or for any other outstanding school debt.  Students with outstanding financial obligations may be withheld from many of the end of year activities.  It is extremely important to resolve these issues early.  I thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

The Maryland School Assessment (MSA) is scheduled for April 1-2 and 8-9.  It is extremely important that all students attend school on all four days of testing!  This reading and math assessment is extremely important for every student as well as the school.  Along with grade information, the MSA results are used to help determine student placement in classes for the upcoming school year and becomes a part of a student’s permanent school record.  We look forward to celebrating the test results in June and again meeting all the state standards in reading, math, and attendance as we did last year.

I look forward to a great finish to our 2007-08 school year!  We are truly a school of academic excellence and strong character and we achieve this through an effective partnership between home and school.

Mr. Charoscar Coleman, Principal
