BILINGUAL CITIZENS RECRUITED AS INTERPRETERS
First Training Session Scheduled for Next Week
Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) will hold the first of two training sessions this school year for bilingual individuals interested in serving as interpreters as needed in schools, during parent-teacher conferences, and at other meetings.
“Serving as an interpreter is a critical role for a member of the community who wants to assist parents and schools in communicating effectively,” said Dr. John E. Deasy, Chief Executive Officer. “In such a diverse county as ours, we must draw upon the resources of the community to assist us in meeting the needs of every child. If you are fluent in another language, this is an opportunity for you to have a positive impact on our schools and the lives of our students.”
Compensation for interpreters is $15 per hour with a two-hour minimum per assignment. Interpreter training sessions are scheduled for Friday, September 22, 2006, 9 a.m.-noon, and Friday, February 16, 2007, 9 a.m.-noon, at the Judy Hoyer Family Learning Center, 8908 Riggs Road, Adelphi, MD 20783.
Each training session can accommodate approximately 35 people. To register, call 301-445-8450, ext. 283 or 284.
