We have two banners in the front lobby, “Teach Like a Champion Today” and “Learn Like a Champion Today”. What does it mean to be a champion? Champions are winners- they are the people that go the extra-mile, put in the extra-effort to be the very best. Many people would like to be champions, but few want to put in the hard work to become champions. We challenge the Deerfield Run Community- the staff, the students, the community, and the administrators to become champions. Here are some strategies that students and their families can do to “Learn Like A Champion Today:
· First and foremost, come to school each day- attendance is important. It was once said the 90% of success is just showing-up. Make daily attendance at school a priority.
· Organize- Have a set place to do your school work at home. Have a set time to do your homework. Have all your school materials organized. Plan your work, and work your plan. Make list of what to do and do it.
· Set high goals for yourself about school and your future. Then tell all the adults you know and trust about your goals. Seek their understanding and support.
· Finally, don’t let anyone stop you from achieving your goals. The road might get blocked and people may say that you can never achieve your goals. But they are wrong- you can if you believe in yourself and never stop trying.
These are a few ideas to help. I am sure you can think of other things to add to the list. But remember, learning like a champion each day means that each day is a gift on your journey to becoming a champion. I would like to hear from you, my door is always open.
