Fifth Grade

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Welcome back to an exciting 2007-2008 school year!  The Fifth Grade Team is delighted to have your child in our classes.  We have an exciting but rigorous year ahead of us and we have set high expectations for ourselves and your child.

Here are a few reminders on preparing your child for success this year:

  • Please make sure your child begins each day well rested and in a good frame of mind.

  • Encourage your child to come to school on time and prepared with his or her tools.

  • Listed below are the required supplies needed for each 5th grader.

  • Homework will be assigned every night.

  • Please check with your child to ensure that homework is completed and returned to school the next day.

  • Every student has been assigned a planner.  The planner lists homework assignments as well as notes from the teacher.  The planner may also contain a behavior grade for the week.  The rubric code is listed below.  *Please sign and review the planner daily and return it every morning.

It is imperative that you attend our BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT.  It will be on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 6:30pm.  We need your support because you are the most important person in your child's life.  Come out and marvel at your child's accomplishments thus far.  We will be explaining in detail our procedures on homework, grading, discipline, and classroom procedures.  Please mark your calendars now,

In order to create a positive earning environment, we practice a firm and fair "no excuses" strategy in order to foster responsibility and results.  To encourage and motivate students, we consistently recognize appropriate behavior through individual, group, and class rewards.  Therefore, to promote the excellent school climate that your child deserves, we will utilize the following School Discipline Plan.  Please review it with your child, sign it, and return it.

We are confident that your child will be successful this year, especially with you working along with us.  This will no doubt result in a prosperous year for all!!!

Thank you in advance for your support.  Be sure to keep the communication lines open and use them frequently as we intern to do the same.  You may contact us at 301-817-0484 or through our emails that are listed below.  We will keep you abreast of your child's incredible achievements as well as any concerns.  We look forward to meeting with you at BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT!

                                                                                                                                       Sincerely,

                                                                                                                                        The Fifth Grade Team
