Fantastic First Graders!
Hints for Parents:
Helping Your Child
Get the Most Out of First Grade!
-
Look through you child’s
backpack each day. In it you
should find his/her homework
folder, reading book, and
important notes.
-
Take out all corrected
papers and go over them with
your child.
-
Help your child complete all
the incomplete papers. Ask
you child why he/she did not
complete the papers. If
he/she did not understand
the directions, why? Did
he/she listen to the
directions? Did he/she ask
questions about the
directions? Did he/she work
during work time or was
he/she wasting time?
-
If your child is not
bringing corrected papers
home, they may be left in
his/her desk. Tell you child
to bring all of his/her
papers home.
-
If you notice that your
child is having trouble with
a particular skill, practice
the skill with your child a
few minutes each day.
-
Ask your child about school
each day. This lets him/her
know that you think school
is important and it becomes
important to him/her also.
-
Homework is given Monday
through Thursday, and
spelling words are sent home
on Friday. Discuss and sign
homework.
-
Make sure your child has
all of the necessary
supplies needed at school
(pencils, crayons, glue,
homework folder, and
scissors)
When we work
together as partners in your
child’s education, he/she will
be more successful!
