Dear Parents and Guardians:

It is a pleasure to welcome you and your child to Kindergarten at District Heights Elementary School. This school year we have set high expectations and goals to achieve.

Keeping parents informed by having good communications between home and school is a key to having a positive and successful school year. Each teacher will send home a welcome packet that will include information about homework, supply list and behavior management policy for their classroom. For the most part, Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten teachers are usually available for calls and conferences after 2:30 pm each day. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at the 301-817-0484.

A reminder about school hours, it is important that your child reports to school by 7:35 a.m.  Good attendance and promptness are essential for success. It is school policy that if a child is absent from school, when the child returns to school, a note should be sent with the child to explain his/her absence.

We believe all students can behave appropriately in class. We will not tolerate students stopping us from teaching and/or any student from learning. In order to provide each child a safe and positive educational climate which create successful and responsible citizens, our staff has developed the following school wide discipline plan.

Our School Rules:

Follow directions first time.

Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself.

Raise your hand to speak and obtain permission to get out of your seat

Respect yourself and others

Come to class prepare daily.

Awards will be given for positive behavior

Finally, check your child’s book bag each night, all communication letters will be sent in your child’s book bag. The Kindergarten Team is looking for volunteers; please contact your child’s teacher if you would like to volunteer.

We are looking forward to a successful year!

Sincerely,

The Kindergarten Team
