The Peer Mediation
Program is responsible for helping to promote a safe and orderly
environment within the school community. Students are invited to
seek the services offered through Peer Mediation to resolve
conflicts and differences between students to encourage the use of
effective conflict resolution skills, responsible and respectful
communication, as well as, the use of anger management strategies
that contribute to healthy, mature constructive means of responding
to conflict instead of reacting in violent, destructive behaviors.
Students are trained in the skills of conflict resolution to aid and
assist their peers in resolving their differences through
responsible and respectful communication in mediation. The Peer
Mediation Office is located on the 2nd floor across from room 211
and the Office extension is 255. Parents are encouraged to support
the Peer Mediation Program by encouraging their children to choose
to resolve their conflicts by using the services of Peer Mediation
instead of seeking to resolve the conflict through the use of
violent behavior which too often leads to suspension, loss of
academic instruction resulting in poor grades, low self-esteem and
strained parental relationships, which oftentimes results in
continued use of inappropriate, destructive behaviors.
Services offered through the Peer Mediation Program include: 1)
Anger Management, 2) Peer Counseling & Mentoring, 3) Instruction in
Effective Conflict Management Strategies and 4) Goal Setting and
Problem Solving Strategies in Social & Academic Development
