Components of the School Improvement Plan

I School Profile/Needs Assessment/Overview of Priorities

Definition:

A systematic review of information disaggregated from a variety of data sources and analyzed to determine strengths, needs and action priorities, including information on all students, key demographic information, and significant climate variables. It should identify root causes, contributing factors and present action priorities. Key elements should include:

  1. Vision (l page); Mission and Philosophy (1-2 pages); List of Priority Goals
  2. School Profile and Needs Assessment: community information; description of instructional program and organization of school in support of it; all pertinent student data (including mobility); teacher and administrator profiles (i.e., number of new, non-certified, and out-of-field; range of experience organized within five-year bands); MSPP disaggregated data information, including suspensions/disciplinary data, student in special programs, number of free and reduced lunch students; CTBS scores (Grade 2); mobility rates; grants and special awards; use of technology; school climate; needs for staff development; and parent/community involvement.
  3. Overview of Priorities: defines the school's focus based on the evidence of needs; it bridges the goals and action plan.
