In the
Prince George's County Public Schools, we are
committed to expanding opportunities for teachers,
administrators, other staff, parents, and community
members to access information, and participate in
individually-guided professional and personal
development opportunities. This Electronic Learning
Community (ELC) enables our many stakeholders across
our school system to gain a deeper understanding of
the initiatives and instructional interventions
affecting the achievement of the students of Prince
George's County.
The
Electronic Learning Community (ELC) is an
interactive, on-line approach to professional
development and outreach for all members of the
Prince George's County community. This new initiative
will greatly expand staff and community members'
access to key information concerning major school
system accountability initiatives.
The
ELC approaches each of the on-line learning
opportunities through the lens of the National Staff Development Council standards for professional
development. Specifically, participants can
investigate:

Assessment
Initiatives- Explore relevant, timely information
on such critical topics as the Maryland School Assessments
and the Maryland High School Assessments. This link provides
in-depth information and staff development ideas for preparing for
these assessment initiatives.

Instructional
Strategies- Investigate a variety of
instructional strategies and research-based
best practices, including performance-based
instruction, Dimensions of Learning, and
cooperative learning.

Learning Theory-
Access information about
current learning theory and its impact on
instruction. This link provides insight into
how instruction and assessment may be
modified to optimize learning.

Staff Development-
Explore ways to facilitate
individual and staff investigation of
relevant accountability initiatives,
incorporating such research-based best
practices as action research, collaborative
inquiry, study groups, and shared decision
making and problem solving.
