In the Prince George's County Public Schools, we are committed to expanding opportunities for teachers, administrators, other staff, parents, and community members to access information, and participate in individually-guided professional and personal development opportunities. This Electronic Learning Community (ELC) enables our many stakeholders across our school system to gain a deeper understanding of the initiatives and instructional interventions affecting the achievement of the students of Prince George's County.

The Electronic Learning Community (ELC) is an interactive, on-line approach to professional development and outreach for all members of the Prince George's County community. This new initiative will greatly expand staff and community members' access to key information concerning major school system accountability initiatives.

The ELC approaches each of the on-line learning opportunities through the lens of the National Staff Development Council standards for professional development. Specifically, participants can investigate:

  • Assessment Initiatives- Explore relevant, timely information on such critical topics as the Maryland School Assessments and the Maryland High School Assessments. This link provides in-depth information and staff development ideas for preparing for these assessment initiatives.

  • Instructional Strategies- Investigate a variety of instructional strategies and research-based best practices, including performance-based instruction, Dimensions of Learning, and cooperative learning.

  • Learning Theory- Access information about current learning theory and its impact on instruction. This link provides insight into how instruction and assessment may be modified to optimize learning.

  • Staff Development- Explore ways to facilitate individual and staff investigation of relevant accountability initiatives, incorporating such research-based best practices as action research, collaborative inquiry, study groups, and shared decision making and problem solving.
