What Can School Administrators
and Supervisors Do to Help?

 

  1. Administer formative grade level or school-wide performance assessments modeled on MSPAP format.

  2. Enable teachers in grades 2, 4, and 7 to proctor at least one session to familiarize themselves with format and logistics.

  3. Ensure that all teachers know how to use holistic scoring procedures as part of their assessment practice.

  4. Emphasize use of computer software programs and lessons that match MSPAP learning outcomes.

  5. Disseminate MSDE and related written materials and resources to all staff members.

  6. Develop and implement a plan t increase parent understanding of the involvement in MSPAP preparation.

  7. Ensure that every elementary school provides a strong beginning reading, language arts, and mathematics program with early intervention.

  8. Ensure indicators of effective instruction are consistently evident in all classrooms through regular classroom observations and grade level/team meetings.

  9. Monitor student achievement on a continuous basis. Look for patterns of strength and need from multiple performance indicators.

  10. Establish a peer tutoring program in which student in upper elementary, middle, or high school work with primary students on specifically identified learning outcomes.
