student assessment, including traditional forms of testing as
well as the construction of short- and essay responses. As the
State High School Assessments become operational, all staff
should receive support and training in writing and using a
variety of assessments and test questioning strategies. |

development opportunities for instructional personnel to
understand, design, and integrate into regular classroom use a
variety of holistic scoring tools such as rubrics, rules, and
keys. |

Encourage
action research and study group projects involving staff use
of rubrics, rules, and keys to monitor student progress
relative to identified Core Learning Goals standards. |

Provide staff
training in the integration of the holistic scoring process
into the monitoring of student achievement as part of the
school improvement planning process. |

Investigate
the use of portfolio assessment, emphasizing ways in which
student artifacts and self-reflections can be used to
complement the process of State High School Assessment
preparation. |
