Strategies That Work!

The Prince George's County Public School System is working to identify strategies and practices to promote success on the Maryland School Performance Assessment Program (MSPAP). The following document summarizes the results of an extended research process involving data analysis of a series of focus group discussions. These sessions involved representatives from all elementary and middle schools demonstrating significant gains in overall MSPAP performance.

Beginning in 1995-96 and continuing to the present, the knowledge and expertise of school-based staffs have been instrumental in achieving the following goals:

To identify instructional strategies, organizational reforms, and resources proven successful in preparing students for MSPAP success.

To articulate administrative and operational practices that promote student success on MSPAP.

To promote parent/community involvement, staff collaboration, and professional development to ensure MSPAP success.

Following is a summary of the data generated in focus group research sessions conducted with over 150 elementary and middle school teachers and administrators.
