What an Acceptable Use Policy is

How to sign in the LMC: To come into the Library Media Center (LMC), you must have a green pass signed by your teacher. An aide at the attendance desk will ask to see your pass. You will then sign your name, the name of the teacher that wrote the pass, and the time you arrived on the log sheet. Keep the pass with you as you may be asked to show it again. SUBSTITUTES MAY NOT SEND STUDENTS TO THE LIBRARY.

How to check out materials: To check out materials, you must have your student ID. Go to the circulation desk and present your ID. The student aide will scan your ID and the material barcode. The aide will then give you back the material.

How to get a lunch pass: Lunch passes are ONLY given the first ten (10) minutes of each lunch period. You go to the circulation desk, present your ID, and ask for a library pass for a specified lunch period. This pass allows you to leave the cafeteria after eating your lunch and come to the library. You are not to bring food or drink into the library. You should come prepared to work quietly and independently.

How to return materials: To return materials, place the items in the slot in the circulation desk marked "Book Return".

How to use the electronic card catalog: To use the electronic catalog, click on the "Catalog" link on the Resources page. Enter your search terms and choose whether it is a key word, author, title or subject. Press enter. A list will be generated of all books and videos that are available along with evaluated web sites.

How long materials are borrowed: Books are checked out for two weeks. They may be renewed twice. Magazines and college videos are checked out for one week. They may be renewed twice. Reference books are checked out for overnight. This means that reference books are due back before first period the next school day.

If you are asked to "Have a nice day": If you are asked to "Have a nice day", you are to gather your materials and leave the LMC immediately. You are welcome to return another period or another day unless told otherwise.

What to do about those over due items: Overdue slips are issued at least 3 times a quarter. Fines for books, magazines, and college videos are $0.10 per school day. Reference materials are $0.25 per school day. If you think an error has been made, please see one of us immediately. All fines must be paid and all materials must be returned or the report card is held.

How to get AUP on my ID: You must sign and have your parents sign the Acceptable Use Policy statement. This statement is returned to the library media specialist. "AUP" will then be printed on the front of your ID.

What is an Acceptable Use Policy: Use of the computers and/or the Internet is a great educational benefit-- it is also a privilege. Both are to be used for educational purposes only. ERHS is not responsible for all of the information found on networks outside of our building nor information residing on other systems to which there is access through the WAN. Students are held accountable for their behavior and their choice of sites. All the guidelines are found in the Acceptable Use Policy Statement. Students must obtain a copy of this statement from the library media specialist, sign it, and have his/her parents sign it prior to being granted computer access.
