Background

The Science and Technology Program is a highly challenging four year curriculum which provides college level academic experiences in science, math, and technology. The program is offered at three centers - Eleanor Roosevelt High School in northern Prince George's County, Oxon Hill High School in southern Prince George's County, and Charles H.F. High School in central Prince George’s County. Students attend the center that serves their legal residence. Transportation is provided for all students.

	If the quarter ends after tba, applications are still due and 1st quarter grades can be sent when they become available.

Eligibility

All interested 8th and 9th grade students who are residents of Prince George's County are eligible to apply for admission to the Science and Technology Program.

Admission

Students are admitted into the program based on three criteria. Each criteria is weighed equally:

	Grades from four quarters of 7th grade and the first quarter of 8th grade (or four quarters of 8th grade and first quarter of 9th grade) in math, science, English, and social studies
	Standardized reading comprehension test
	Standardized numerical test

Students presently or previously enrolled in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) who are recommended by appropriate school staff will take an abstract reasoning test in lieu of the standardized verbal test.

The standardized verbal and math tests are administered at designated test sites in January each year.

Information regarding the standardized tests

	Each test is normally 30 minutes in length, approximately 30 questions
	The exam is secured and copies of previous exams are not available
	A different exam is given each year
	The verbal component consists of reading comprehension
	The math test is arithmetic, based on basic middle school skills and includes some simple algebra
	It is available to all eighth and ninth grade students

Please note the following

	There is no pass or fail
	The GPA Score is calculated by multiplying the Weighted GPA by 25
	Algebra and geometry taken either year receive extra weight
	Science courses at math and science magnet schools also receive extra weight
	The Total Score is computed by adding the GPA Score, the Verbal Percentile, the Math Percentile
	Students with the top 225-250 scores are admitted to Eleanor Roosevelt High School's Science and Technology Program. The next 60 students are placed on the Waiting List
	The Program only has room for a limited number of students. The fact that a student does not make the cut off, does not mean that student would not find success at Eleanor Roosevelt High School or in another academic setting
	Notification of selection is made in mid to late March. At that time, students who have been selected for admission or placed on the Waiting List are notified of an orientation and pre-registration program
	All students on the Waiting List should make alternate academic plans
