Program Description

Mission

The mission of the Even Start Program is to increase the oral and written communication skills of educationally disadvantaged adults and their children by providing family literacy instruction and related support in conjunction with services already being offered by the Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), government agencies, and community organizations.

Program Goals

  • To Raise the Education and Employability level of parents who have children age birth to seven years old through instruction in basic skills.
  • To Increase the developmental skills of preschool children to prepare them for academic success in school.
  • To improve the parenting skills and knowledge of the adult participants.
  • To enable parents to become familiar with and comfortable in school settings.
