Parents please remember to check www.schoolnotes.com so that you can keep up with your child’s homework and important class information.

2nd GRADE

The second graders have been working very hard.  They recently had a chance to share the Aztec projects.  They were extremely interesting and very creative.

Integrated Science day was again successful.  Clearwater Nature Center brought owls to school.  The demonstration was informative and the children learned many important facts.  After the presentation, they had a chance to dissect owl pellets.  Please remember to send in the permission slip for our trip to the Baltimore National Aquarium.  The field trip will be Thursday, November 15th.  We will be visiting the exhibits with an emphasis on how environment changes and affects the lives of the animals in those environments.  We will see the dolphin show too!

Please look for information on the math technology project, which will be sent home on November 18th!  All second graders need to keep reading every night and practice their math facts too!  A coupon for a personal pan pizza is earned when a completed reading log is turned in!

Counselor’s Corner

Our value for the month of November is UNIQUENESS

Uniqueness means learning more about others so you can know more about yourself.

This month, I will be working with K-2nd  grade classes.  As I go into your child’s classroom for guidance lessons, we will be discussing self-esteem and appreciating the differences of others.

ILP CONFRENCES

Thanks to all of the 5th grade parents, who have been able to attend your child’s ILP Conference.    I am still in the process of scheduling 5th grade students.  If you have not made an appointment for your child’s Individual Learning Plan, please contact me at (301) 203-1140 or at Andrea.Taylor@pgcps.org.

GOLD COMMITTEE

The GOLD Committee would like to thank all the staff members, students, and parents for helping to make Red Ribbon Week, a fun week, while emphasizing the importance of staying away from drugs.

   UNICEF TRICK OR TREAT

As part of community month, the GOLD Committee has taken on the task of asking our community to support the efforts of UNICEF.  Parents, you should have received a trick-or-treat collection box on Friday with a letter explaining this effort.  Any spare change collected for this effort should be turned in no later than Monday, November 5th.  We thank you in advance for your efforts to support children around the world

TAG NEWS

WRITE-A-BOOK

Write-A-Book information was sent home on Monday, October 15, 2007.  There are two due dates for the books, Thursday, December 20, 2007 (the last day before the break) and January 2, 2008.  Any student who does not turn in his/her book on either date will not be able to participate in the contest.  In the event that a student is absent on both dates a doctor’s note must accompany the student upon returning to school in order for the book to be graded by the classroom teacher,.

A Parent Information Night has been set up for Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 6:00 pm.  In December, we will also sponsor a book binding night for those parents and students who would like to assemble their book here at HGF.  The date will be announced as soon as the December calendar is available.  If you have questions or concerns, please email Ms. Champion at margo.champion@pgcps.org
