Middle to High School Transition Survey

The Department of Research and Evaluation is conducting a survey to determine how well our schools are doing in helping freshmen adjust to high school.  As ninth graders your opinions are essential to the success of this project.

Parent Information

Weather Guidelines: This letter from the Superintendent is reminding parents and guardians of procedures used to notify the public of weather-related delays and cancellations for Prince George’s County Public Schools.

PARENT-COMMUNITY MEETING

A Parent-Community Meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 7PM in the Fairmont Heights gymnasium. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss updates on construction plans for the new facility for Fairmont Heights High School. The meeting will be hosted by representatives from the Prince George's County Board of Education. This meeting is being sponsored by the Fairmont Heights High School PTSA and Alumni Association.

Student Life

Posse Foundation Scholarship winner

Ten students from nine Prince George's County Public Schools were awarded $1 million in scholarships this month. The Posse Foundation, a college-preparation organization that recruits and trains public school students from throughout the county, gave $100,000 four-year, full-tuition scholarships to each student.

Twenty-nine county students have received nearly $3 million in scholarships from the foundation since 2005. Twenty-eight colleges nationwide partnered with the foundation to provide at least $100,000 in scholarships to participants.

Kyle Espinosa of Fairmont Heights High School will attend Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.

MLK Memorial Pioneers….

30 GEAR UP students visited the new Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial located at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Maryland. Fairmont Heights HS was the first school to visit the memorial.

GEAR UP Distributes Calculators…….

Parents of Algebra I students are being given TI- 84 Calculators for students to practice and for homework assignments! These calculators are the key to passing the HSA Algebra! Parents come in and get your calculators! (Contact Ms. Bello to schedule a pick up time and day).
