Welcome to Gaywood Elementary.  We are a Kindergarten to 6th grade school with a Comprehensive Special Education Program and ESOL Program.  We look forward to a great year at Gaywood.

MISSION

The Gaywood Elementary School staff is committed to excellence.

The mission of Gaywood Elementary School is to ensure that students acquire the knowledge to become responsible, productive citizens in a global society.  Through a cooperative team effort, we will provide a variety of opportunities for the development as life-long learners.  We will set high expectations for ourselves and our students and promote a strong home school partnership to meet those expectations.

UNIFORMS

We are a uniform school.  Our uniform policy is mandatory.  Uniforms must be worn every day.  Students who are not wearing their uniform will be asked to change clothes and their parents contacted.

ATTENDANCE

All students are expected to attend school regularly in accordance with the Prince George's County Public School laws and regulations and the by-laws of Maryland.  Parents are urged to telephone the school on any day their child is to be out.  Excused absences include: state emergency; observance of religious holidays; illness; death in the immediate family; quarantine; court summons; violent storm; suspension.  Absences from school, other than those listed above, are considered unlawful absences.

Students are required to bring a written note from their parent or guardian stating the reasons for the absence upon returning to school.  Students at all grade levels must complete make-up work or receive a zero, and will be averaged with other grades.

ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL

Our school hours are from 7:45a.m. to 1:55p.m.

Students may enter the building at 7:20a.m. and report to the cafeteria.  Breakfast is served from 7:20a.m. until 7:40a.m. for those students who choose to eat breakfast at school.  You may drop your students off at the top of the hill with the crossing guard and the students will walk down to the school.  Please DO NOT pull down into the front of the school during our bus drop-off and pick-up times.  When picking up students at the end of the day, please pick them up at the top of the hill on 97th Avenue near the crossing guard station.    If you child is to be dismissed early, please send a note to your child's teacher on the day of the early dismissal advising the time you will pick your child up.
