This year Glenn Dale Elementary School has adopted a new behavior plan.

Dear Parents:

Glenn Dale Elementary School has adopted a school-wide behavior plan called Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).  This plan is designed to foster a climate of cooperation, academic excellence, respect and safety at Glenn Dale.  The four school rules that are the foundation of our plan are…

v     I am RESPECTFUL

v     I am SAFE

v     I am RESPONSIBLE

v     I am PREPARED

We will acknowledge students who consistently follow our school rules in a number of ways including a school-wide incentive plan (classes earn “Gators”) and individual “Good Job” tickets to recognize students “caught” following Glenn Dale’s expectations.

We will also use a progressive color system in our classrooms to assist students in monitoring behaviors.

All students will start every morning on green.  They are encouraged and reinforced to remain on green throughout the day.  If a child fails to comply with the school expectations, he/she will be asked to change their card or clip to a different color.  The colors are as follows:

                  Green:  good behavior

*Verbal warning before changing color to yellow

Yellow:      10 minutes of time-out in classroom, student completes a Problem Solving Log to be signed by the parent and returned the next school day

Orange:     20 minutes of time-out in another classroom, phone call to parent, student writes letter to parent

Red:          Office referral.  Severe behaviors will result in direct color change to red.

Blue:         Outstanding behavior.  Used for very special times.

Your child's color for the day will be indicated by a colored dot in the agenda book.  We ask that you reinforce all positive behaviors with your child as you review the agenda book each evening.  Please sign and return the agenda book every day.

Your support and involvement will assist Glenn Dale Elementary to be a school where your children can excel in a safe, respectful and cooperative learning environment.  We look forward to an excellent school year!

                                                            Sincerely,

Glenn Dale Elementary Faculty and Staff

Individual “Good Job” Ticket Incentive

1.        Individual students can earn “Good Job” tickets for following school expectations.

2.        Tickets can be given to students by any staff member at any time.  Half of the ticket is collected by the student and kept in the classroom.  The other half of the ticket is sent to the office on Wednesday afternoon.

3.        Students who are on green (classroom chart) at the end of the day receive a ticket on a daily basis from their classroom teacher.

4.        Tickets will be sorted into containers:  I Am Respectful, I Am Safe, I Am Responsible, and I Am Prepared.

5.        Every Wednesday, there will be a random drawing from each of the containers.  Four students and the four teachers who gave those students’ tickets will win prizes.

6.         Every Friday, the student with the most tickets from each class will have their picture taken and the picture placed on the bulletin board inside the lower door.  They will also receive a treat.

7.        Each quarter, students with a pre-determined number of tickets for the quarter will be invited to a special celebration event, such as a movie, a special assembly, a dance, or a picnic.
