WELCOME TO THE HOME OF
THE MIGHTY KNIGHTS
Our
Mission
The Mission of G. James Gholson Middle School is to provide a safe
and orderly learning environment where the minds of Prince George’s
County’s youth are challenged continuously to attain their greatest
individual level of academic and social intellect, through thought
provoking, collaboratively planned instruction designed to meet or
exceed the standards of
learning established by Maryland State Department of Education.
Our
Vision
The faculty and staff of G. James Gholson Middle School will
dedicate themselves to creating and maintaining an
institution of learning that will:
Significantly increase student academic performance from the level
it is upon entry into the school, by assessing each
student’s individual academic performance, diagnosing the best plan
of instruction and continuously monitoring student progress to
maximize instruction in the individual student’s area of greatest
academic need.
Prepare all that attend to be socially and academically successful
in high school, college, the workplace and life in general
by constantly providing opportunities for students to experience and
internalize the lessons that will prepare them to
become productive American citizens and globally thinking
individuals.
Prepare all that attend to face the academic and technological
challenges and changes of the 21st century, by providing
access to the latest technology for students and teachers, in the
classrooms, media center, computer labs and throughout the building.

Principal's
25 Book Campaign: Every student at G. James Gholson must read at
least 25 books per month. The book of the month can be counted as
one of the three. Students must complete and submit reading
assignments to their homeroom
teacher. The page stipulations for the books are as followed: Anyone
that reads a book that has between 125 and 249 pages
gets credit for
having read 1 book; if their book has 250 pages, they will get
credit for 2 books, and so on. We invite you to
join the Gholson family in this challenge
because children are most greatly influenced by the examples set at
home and in
their community. The book of the month for June
is forthcoming.
Visitor
Policy:
G. James Gholson M.S. welcome visitors. All visitors
must report to the main office, sign in, present photo
ID, receive a
visitor's badge, and a member of the front office staff will assist
you.
Early
Dismissal:
Students
should notify the attendance office in writing if they are going to be
dismissed early. Early
dismissal will not be allowed after 3:45pm.
Dismissal Procedures: Classes are dismissed at 4:10 pm. Bus
riders are to go directly to their buses. Students are not
allowed to leave the school property
and then return to get on their bus. If a student is removed from a
bus, the student will have to find alternative transportation during
their suspension. Walkers are to wait in their class until they are
dismissed
via the intercom then walk directly home.
Scheduling: Our school uses a hybrid A/B schedule. Students
attend 5 classes a day and each class is 75 minutes. Students
attend Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and
a Creative Arts class. The Creative Arts
classes include computer applications, band, general music, chorus,
TV media, physical education, health, art, and foreign
language. This schedule allows teachers to plan more effectively
with both their academic team and their department members. While
planning teachers use the
Prince George’s County curriculum frameworks, Standards of
Excellence, the Voluntary State Curriculum (VSC) and other
appropriate curriculum documents.
Computer and Acceptable Use Policy: Our
Acceptable Use Policy
(AUP) and publicity
release forms have been updated.
The
Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) forms were handed out to students at the
beginning of the school year for both students
and parents to sign.
PTSA: G. James
Gholson Middle School's Parent/Teacher/Student/Association (PTSA) is
a vehicle by which the school
relates to the community from which it
draws support. It is open to anyone interested in working for the
welfare of our
school and students. The PTSA meets on the 2nd
Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. Click
