Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope that everyone has had a wonderful summer! We are looking forward to the beginning of a new school year. The 2007-2008 school year begins on Monday, August 20th. The school hours for students are 7:45-1:55 pm. On the first day of school, students should report directly to their classroom – you will be notified by mail as to which class your child will be in. Several staff members will be available to help new students, pre-kindergartners and kindergartners find their way.
This year promises to be an exciting one! We will continue to work towards developing a successful program to meet the needs of our students. We welcome families to be involved in our school and activities. Your support is greatly needed and appreciated.
We are inviting the students and parents to come to school on Wednesday evening, August 15th from 5:00-7:00 for a school-wide picnic. This will give you and your children and opportunity to meet the teachers, find the classrooms, and have a picnic dinner.
Our enrollment at this time is 350. Our class sizes are varied and range from 15 – 28 students. If you know of families who have moved into our neighborhood, please let them know they need to register their children for school as soon as possible.
We welcome the pre-kindergarten program to our school this year!

The teachers have provided some ideas for school supplies, which are posted on this website. This is a general listing and there may be a more complete list given out during the first week of school. Teachers will allow 2-3 weeks for students to bring in their supplies. If you need assistance in getting supplies, please contact the classroom teacher or our counselor, Ms. Westenburger. There are churches and other organizations in our community that have generously donated school supplies to our school.
There is no change in the meal prices for this year. Breakfast is $1.10 for full price and $.30 for reduced price. If students want to have breakfast, they must arrive from 7:30-7:45. Lunch is $1.75 for full price and $.40 for reduced price. The price of milk is $.40 for ½ pint carton. Please be sure your child has money in their lunch account or brings a lunch to school. Students who attended Hollywood last year will have the same PIN number. New students will be issued a PIN number and may deposit money into their account. This will begin on the first day of school. The office cannot loan lunch money. Students who do not bring lunch or have money will be given a cheese sandwich and milk by the cafeteria. There will be no exceptions; this is the school system’s policy.
The Before and After Care program is continuing this year. Their hours are 7:00-7:45 a.m. and 1:55-6:00 p.m. For more information, please call their office at 301-513-5919. Mrs. Jackie White is the program director.
I hope that you received a phone message giving you information about receiving this letter and the up-coming picnic! We are excited to have the new phone system that allows us to communicate with all our families. We will use it to keep you informed, let you know about attendance concerns, and in case of an emergency.
We need recess monitors! If you can work from 10:00-12:45, please contact our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Nancy Schickner. We would love to have you join us on the playground!
We look forward to a successful year with our students and families. We hope that you will participate in the many activities in the classroom and the school. We have been very fortunate to have a strong and supportive PTA. If you are interested in serving on the board as an officer please let us know!

Estimados Padres y Guardianes,
¡Espero que todos hayan disfrutado de su verano! Estamos esperando emocionadamente el principio del nuevo año escolar. El año escolar 2007-2008 empieza el lunes, 20 de Agosto. El horario para los estudiantes es de 7:45-1:55. En el primer día de escuela, los estudiantes deben reportarse directamente a su aula. Una carta a sido enviada a cada estudiante informándole quien será el/la profesor/a que tendrá. Varios maestros van a estar para ayudar a los estudiantes nuevos y a los de kindergarten a encontrar sus aulas.
¡Este año promete ser muy emocionante! Continuaremos trabajando para desarrollar un programa éxito que llene las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes. Encomiamos a las familias para que se envuelvan con nuestra escuela y las actividades. Su apoyo es muy necesario y apreciado.
Estamos invitando a los estudiantes y a los padres para que vengan a la escuela el Miércoles por la tarde, 15 de Agosto de las 5 -7 p.m. por un pic-nic para toda la escuela. Esto le dará una oportunidad a usted a su niño(a) de conocer a los maestros, encontrar sus aulas, y cenar con nosotros.

Las maestras han proveído algunas ideas para los útiles de la escuela, que están incluidos en esta pagina web. Esta es una lista general y puede que una lista mas completa sea dada la primera semana de la escuela. Las maestras permitirán de 2-3 semanas para que traigan los útiles. Si necesita ayuda para obtener útiles, favor de comunicarse con la maestra o con la consejera, Sra. Westenburger. Han habido iglesias y otras organizaciones en nuestra comunidad que han donado generosamente útiles escolares a nuestra escuela.
No hay ningún cambio en los precios para la comida este año. El desayuno cuesta $1.10 por precio normal, y $.30 por precio reducido. Si el estudiante quiere desayunar, tiene que llevar aquí antes entre 7:30-7:45 El almuerzo cuesta $1.75 por precio normal y $.40 por precio reducido. Esto comenzara el en primer día de escuela. La oficina no podrá prestarles dinero. Los estudiantes que no traigan su almuerzo o no tengan dinero, se les dará un sándwich de queso y leche de parte de la cafetería. No habrá ninguna excepción; esta es una póliza de todo el sistema escolar.

Esperamos un año exitoso con nuestros estudiantes y familias. Esperamos que usted participe en muchas actividades del aula y en la escuela. Hemos sido muy afortunados de tener un PTA fuerte y que nos da apoyo. ¡Si esta interesado en servir como oficial en la junta, por favor déjenoslo saber! El PTA estará proveyendo el postre para el picnic el 15. Por favor para por su mesa y apúntese para ayudarnos este año. Será una oportunidad muy recompensadota.
