Middle Sates Accreditation:
School Improvement Plan
2006-2007 1st Quarter Monitoring Tool
2006-2007 2nd Quarter Monitoring Tool
What is Accreditation for Growth? (AFG)
AFG is
an accreditation process that uses strategic planning as a
vehicle for school improvement and growth in student
performance.
AFG
requires the school to base its objectives on a vision of a
preferred future. AFG provides for a continuous review of
programs and services and allows all members of the school’s
constituency to participate in the future of the school.
High
Point High School continues to seek its accredited status by an
independent review conducted by the Middle States Association (MSA).
The Middle States visitation team last conducted the review of
High Point High School in 1997.
What are the “Student Performance
Objectives?”
Student performance objectives are defined by MSA for the AFG
process. Objectives are the school’s measurable end results
that focus on increasing student achievement. Specifically,
High Point High School’s objectives cover two areas of
improvement: attaining proficiency or better in the High School
Assessment courses (English 10, biology, algebra 1, and LSN) and
improved performance on standardized tests (PSAT, SAT, and AP).
What happens during the visit to High
Point High School?
The purpose of the visit is to validate the school’s plan by
reviewing the written data, objectives, and process. The
visiting team of professionals will interview members of the
school community to determine whether the MSA expectations and
standards are being met. Our visit is scheduled to take place
in March 2007.
What happens after the visit?
AFG is an ongoing process. High Point High School will focus on
meeting the requirements of the action plans so that we move
closer to achieving our objectives. We will continue to enrich
our curriculum and work with all students to improve their
skills. An annual review will be conducted to chart our
progress. MSA requires that we complete a “half-way” report at
the mid-point of the five-year process, which will be followed
up by a visit from MSA. We will continue to analyze and revise
as needed.
What does AFG mean for the students and
parents of High Point High School?
AFG gives the students, teachers, parents, and the community a
clear vision of what we are trying to do to improve students’
skills over the next five years. We are focusing on curriculum
development, quality instruction, and lifelong learning. Our
school belief statements help guide us in our preparation.
