A Few Words from Ms. Golden

On December 18 our CPA Department will put on their annual Winter Program at 7:00 p.m. Put this on your calendar.

The Winter Holidays begin on the afternoon of December 19; students return to school on January 5.
In order to recognize the historical significance of this Inauguration Day, our Board of Education members have declared that on January 20 schools will be closed. It is their intention that we are all free to be part of history rather than to read about it as an afterthought.

As I informed you some time ago, our school is in the midst of a financial crisis. It is our hope that due to your support of our Fall Fundraiser, that our problems will have been somewhat lessened. Many years ago my father taught me a lesson that has stuck with me throughout my life -- to give to others in their need. I remember as an adult once asking him what he wanted for Christmas; he replied that if he wanted or needed anything, he would buy it himself. When I persisted that I needed to give him a present, he asked me to give to a charity in his name. Then started a tradition that continues today in our family among the adults. I request in this time of need in our country that if you are looking to do the same that you consider a donation to HMS to support our incentive program for our students or to help us to pay for the multicultural assemblies that we bring in three times a year. We truly appreciate those of you who already do that -- and we understand if this year for others it is impossible.

We are in need of gently worn coats. In the past we have had the funds to purchase new ones for students at HMS in need. However, due to our financial problems, we are unable to make such purchases this year. If you have gently work coats that you could donate, please send them in to Ms. Robinson so that we can give them to our students who are without warm coats. Students also need hats, scarves, and gloves. NOTE: If your child does not have a coat and needs one, please let Ms. Robinson know so that we can see what we can do.
Our Sophisticated Ladies sponsored by Ms. Gray are now collecting gently worn clothing in their holiday clothing drive. If you have clothing to donate, the donation box is in the Main Lobby or you may contact Ms. Gray at 301-209-5830.
