This
year the students will take many diagnostic pretests in various curriculum
areas to identify weaknesses and strengths.
Teachers will use the data for instructional purposes.
After the skills are taught, the students will take a posttest to
measure growth.
The MSA (Maryland State
Assessment), which measures performance in Reading and Math, will be given
March 14,15,21, 22, 2006.
The students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 will take the MSA this year.
In addition to the above, the
students take quarterly Reading tests and teacher selected or created
tests in various subject areas. Assessment
is on-going all through the school year.
You can help your child by
encouraging a positive attitude toward testing. For Example, tell them to:
Listen carefully to
the directions. Do your best. Keep trying. Never give up.
Focus on the task, but try not to stress. Breathe! Another
way to help all year is to know and review with your child the skills
being taught in class and assist with homework.
Family involvement has
been shown to increase test student interest and performance.
