The mission of the school library media program in Prince George's County is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This Means:
What’s behind the doors of the Mary Harris “Mother” Jones Elementary School Media Center? As one enters the room it is evident that the Media Center is the basis for information and lifetime learning needs of our students, staff, and community. It is the vision of the Mary Harris “Mother” Jones Media Center to create an inviting, student-centered learning atmosphere with unlimited access to an abundance of information. With a complete and up to date collection of materials, the Media Center strives to promote literacy and a lifetime love for reading through book talks, read alouds, story telling and school wide reading promotions. The media center staff strives to plan and work collaboratively with teachers to achieve both classroom curricular goals and library media curricular goals to ensures that students visit the Media Center with a purpose. This makes the each visit meaningful and fulfilling for our students and their teachers. It is also the vision of the Media Center to strive to keep our students, staff, and community up with the latest trends in technology and provide leadership in acquiring information technology skills. As visitors leave through the doors of the Mary Harris “Mother” Jones Media Center, they are leaving with a feeling of accomplishment and gratitude. They are all eagerly awaiting to return, whether it’s to check out a good book, research the unknown, or just find out what’s new. They know that the Mother Jones Media Center has everything they need.
ScheduleThe Mary Harris "Mother" Jones Media Center is open daily during school hours. The media center operates on fixed/flex schedule. Students who visit individually must have a pass.
Checkout
Policies All students must obtain parent permission before checking out materials. This is to ensure that students and parents understand the policies for lost and damaged materials. We do not charge fines for overdue materials, however students may not check out any new materials until the old materials are returned. According to Prince George's County Public school system policies students who lose or damage books beyond repair are expected to pay for the materials to be replaced.
