Attendance

Good attendance during school years establishes an important lifelong success habit. All students are expected to attend, on time, every day. Kingsford's day begins at 7:45 A.M. Students are admitted to class at 7:30 A.M. Please understand that tardiness is a disruption to the orderly beginning of your student's day as well as that of classmates. Try to avoid tardiness. Chronic tardiness is contrary to our mission of success in life.

Lawful absences established by state law (COMAR 13A.08.03) are as follows: Death in the immediate family; Illness of the student; Court Summons; Hazardous weather conditions that would endanger the health or safety of the student when in transit to and from school; Observance of a religious holiday; State emergency; Suspension; Other emergency or set of circumstances which, in the judgment of the superintendent or designee, constitutes a good and sufficient cause for absence from school.

When your student is absent you must send a written note to school on the first day back after the absence. The note should include the date of the absence and the reason.
