Wesley represented Laurel High School at a 4 day, 3 night leadership training program sponsored by the Rotary Club of Laurel.  The awards conference, held at the YMCA Camp Letts in Edgewater, MD, highlights and further develops leadership skills of students who have shown a potential for rendering important service to their schools and communities.

The ASE is a requirement for many automotive shop mechanics. ..And with a grade point average of 3.97 and numerous Advanced Placement courses on her transcript, Darling plans to attend either Johns Hopkins University or the University of Maryland, College Park. Morgan Taylor attended the Intergenerational Summit on the State of Black America October 16, 2007.  This event was sponsored by the 2007 National Visionary Leadership Project,
founded by Camille Cosby and Renee Poussaint.  Our young leaders of tomorrow met with some of the nation's most influential African American elders.

Pro-Stackers on Good Day Philadelphia!

Stacking has become such a mainstream sport that the 2006 world championships were broadcast to a national audience. Two local world champs stopped by Good as they try to break the current sport stacking record. Malcolm Richardson who goes to Laurel High School, and Ashley, who goes to Willow Dale Elementary School in Warminster, Bucks County gave it their best shot!

Oyindamola Ogungbemile, 11th grade,   spent part of her summer break in China this as an ambassador of People to People Student Ambassadors.
She visited Hong Kong, Beijing and other 2 cities from June 29, to July 15, 2007.

Congratulations to the following students who have qualified for the Potential Scholars Program (PSP).  These students performed in the top 75th percentile in at least two of the three areas of the exam (reading, math, and writing).  They have been selected to apply for participation in the test preparation program which will be conducted on four Saturdays and two Thursdays in September and October.

They have been selected to participate in the 2008-2009 National Board Certified Teacher Leadership Development (NBCT LD)Program.
They also received scholarships from Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) and the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)in the amount of $2,500 to pursue National Board Certification.
Laurel High School has exited “School Improvement” status by meeting all state and federal academic requirements for a second year in a row!

A big thank you to Ms. Augustus and the SGA/Renaissance Committee for putting together and hosting our Annual "Goodie Extravaganza."
As always the deserts/sweets were delicious and all staff that attended seem to have a good time.

Ms. White and Ms. Pressley would like to extend our sincere thanks to ALL OF YOU for making our Thanksgiving Luncheon a success.  The students truly enjoyed themselves and it gave us all a chance to celebrate our blessings with others who may not be as fortunate.  Thanks for all who stopped by to visit and join the celebration.

Laurel High School's Newspaper, The Shield, just received a plaque for the "International Second Place Award" in an international journalism competition sponsored by the Quill and Scroll Society. 
The award was credited to the 2006 - 2007 newspaper staff:

Managing Editor - Brian Lentz (now majoring in journalism in college)
