Maintenance Department Strategies

The mission of the Maintenance Department is to provide a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment for the children in the care of the Prince George’s County Public School System and for the employees of the school system.  Our Maintenance Department is keenly aware of its role in supporting the mission of the School Board.  In addition to overseeing the maintenance and repair of School Board Facilities, the Maintenance Department expends considerable effort accomplishing minor construction projects.  The Maintenance Department must ensure all of our facilities are well maintained as possible.  Meeting the demands and challenges to satisfy our mission requirements will require creative management and the use of non-conventional methods.  With teamwork and continuous improvement, we will work from the following strategies to provide the highest quality customer service

1. UTILIZE FOUR PILLARS OF FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
   
   a. Identify the work
   b. Plan, estimate, and schedule the work
   c. Accomplish the work
   d. Assess and provide feedback (follow-up) on the work
   
   

2.  KNOW THE CONDITION OF OUR FACILITIES
   
   Through a continuous facilities assessment program, the Maintenance Department will a develop and maintain a work order database of all known facility deficiencies, from which our budget and prioritized work plan can be developed and executed.
