Dear Parents,

Parent involvement is an important part of the culture at Marlton Elementary School.  During these past two weeks, parents have been extremely involved with our students.  Parents supervised students during Jump Rope for Heart; read to classes at the Read Across America celebration; toured the Academic Fair to view their child’s work and examine the work of other grade levels; and enjoyed the friendships of their neighbors and love of their children at Muffins for Mom!  This strong relationship between parents and school affects the learning of your child.  Children appreciate the time parents spend at their school.  They express their thanks by working hard for their parents and teachers to increase their level of achievement.  We thank you for your participation in these activities and for your efforts as we work together for the children.

Parent Workshop – Tonight, Monday, March 10, the regional office invites you to attend a Parent Workshop.  The topic is “Curriculum Updates & Looking Ahead  Parents, that have attended the regional workshops during the year, have mentioned how much information they have learned about the curriculum.  It will be an interesting activity.

Black History Play – Mark your calendar for Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m., to attend the musical production, “Motown, One Man’s Dream”.  The students of Marlton Elementary, under the direction of Gary Seddon, will share the history of Motown and Barry Gordy.  We are extremely proud of their talents and dedication to musical theater.  Bring your family and neighbors for an evening of entertainment.  Afterwards, refreshments will be sold to help defray the cost of the production.  We invite parents to donate a roll of paper towels to the Christmas in April Project and bring the roll to the Black History Play.  This demonstration of your commitment to community service will inspire the children.

Christmas in April – Many students are participating in this community service project.  Continue to ask your child to complete various jobs in the home.  Please “bank” the money they earn and allow them to purchase cleaning products for Christmas in April.  The volunteers will use the products as they renovate and clean homes of needy, elderly residents of Prince George’s County. During this last week of the project, students are invited to earn money to purchase all purpose cleanser and trash bags.  This community service project ends on Thursday.
