MSA Science
– The students in fifth grade will complete the MSA Science test on 4/29 and
4/30. It is important that the students get a good night’s sleep, eat
breakfast and arrive to school on time.
Progress reports
– Progress reports for the fourth quarter will be distributed on 4/29. If
your child receives a progress report, contact the teacher immediately to set
a conference date. It is important to discuss the problems and work together
with the teacher to identify ways to help your child improve the grade.
Accolades – We are
pleased to announce that Sue Kowalski, first grade teacher, has been
recognized as an Outstanding Educator by the Prince George’s County School
System. Ms. Kowalski has been a classroom teacher for 32 years in our county
and has taught at Marlton Elementary for 10 years. We congratulate her for
earning this prestigious award.
Six
Flags Read to Succeed
– Our school had 107 students fulfill the requirements of the Six Flags Six
Hour Reading Club. They received one free admission ticket today; valid at
the Six Flags theme parks listed on the ticket. The ticket can be redeemed
from 6/19 through 8/10 only. No exceptions will be made and no other dates
will be allowed. Lost, stolen or damaged tickets cannot be replaced. We thank
the students for participating in the Read to Succeed Program.
Online Prepayment for Student Lunches (www.paypams.com) – LAST DAY FOR CHECKS TO THE CAFETERIA IS MAY 5. Use your bank
debit card, Visa, Discover or MasterCard to pre-pay for your children’s meals.
Even with this information, we have students that must receive a cheese
sandwich for lunch because they do not have any money on their account! You
are encouraged to pre-purchase meals for at least one month at a time, and to
pre-pay at least two days prior to your child’s meal account being depleted.
The price of lunches for the remainder of the school year is: $1.75 X 29
days = $50.75, $ .40 X 29 days = $11.60; breakfast $1.10 x 29 days =
$31.90.
First
in Math – To
increase student participation in the First in Math activities, there are two
different opportunities for recognition. On May 1, we will recognize students
that are newcomers to the site. Gr. 3 – 500 stickers, Gr. 4 & 5 1,000
stickers and Gr. 6 – 1,500 stickers. Encourage your child to visit the site.
You will be pleased with their math improvement.
First
in Math – Our
second celebration will take place on May 8 for those students that have
earned 3,000. We have many students that had earned close to 3,000 at our
last celebration. They are challenged to increase their previous total by 400
stickers!

Update:
Great
news! We were able to raise approximately $5,900 during our Spring Book
Fair. Some of the profits were used to purchase books from the teachers' wish
lists. A portion of the remaining profits will be used to purchase
instructional resources for teachers and their classrooms!
In addition, we had approximately 10 families participate in our Build a Book
family night event on April 16th! Thanks to each parent who shared this
special event with their child(ren). The children enjoyed writing and using
creative illustrations to make their own unique books. They enjoyed the pizza
too!
A SPECIAL thanks goes to ALL of the Book Fair volunteers: Sean Boyden, Faye
Cobb, Frederica Dyer, Christina Lewis, Michael
Ling, Sonia Maclin, Mary Scott, Tara Smith, Karen
Spencer, Ted Yorkshire and Pep Squad
members! The Book Fair would not have been a success without their time,
commitment and enthusiasm!
Happy Mothers’ Day to our
wonderful mothers!
