Essential Question
How do artists use Quilts to tell a story?
 
Objectives:
1. Students will demonstrate their ability to read for literary experience by examining, constructing, and extending meaning from stories and internet sources.
2. Students will demonstrate their ability to read for information by examining, constructing, and extending meaning from articles, editorials, content texts, and other expository materials related to the content areas.
3.  Students will demonstrate an appreciation of art as it is expressed through quilting. 
4.  Students will be able to create a work of art.
5.  Students will create a presentation of their research.

Research Worksheet
Internet sources
Encyclopedia
Trade books
 
Procedure:
1. Working as a team you will have the task of answering the essential question and meet the objectives of this lesson. 
2. Read the story Tar Beach.
3. Using the Research Worksheet for your note taking use the media center and the Internet as sources for your research.
4. State your sources using the research worksheet.
5. Develop a presentation.
6. Make your own quilt using Microsoft Paint.
