America's Choice
25 Book Campaign

Thurgood Marshall Middle School (TMMS) has been selected as an America’s Choice School. The America’s Choice program involves learning through workshop models. Within these models TMMS is introducing the 25 Books Campaign. We challenge our students to read 25 books within a school year (6-7 minimum per quarter). Parents, we need your support to implement this beneficial program!!!!

Title:

Why do we require TMMS students to read 25 books this year?

v     Builds vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension

v     Drives mastery of important literacy skills

v     Develops students’ confidence in their ability to read

v     Fosters a love for reading based on their own personal interests

Research shows that students should read about one million words (approximately 25-30 books) a year to develop sufficient vocabulary and to improve their reading proficiency.
