The
Second Quarter Honor Roll Assembly was a great success. We had
so many students on the honor roll in the second quarter. The
sisterhood and brotherhood programs have encouraged many of our
students to improve in all their classes. The teachers have also
been working hard to make sure the students are learning. So we
encourage the parents to help their children succeed in the next
honor roll assembly. We hope that next quarter, every student
will be a honor roll student. (Caption by Tamera Brown and Ravenn Mathis). |

On November 1, 2007, Tamara Benbow and Zekiya
Dudley, did a superb job of broadcasting the morning
announcements via television. The ladies introduced "Tiger TV"
to over 700 student viewers. Behind the scenes, Ms. Madolyn
Johns (in charge of morning announcements) writes the scripts
and preps the announcers. And amazingly, our students, Orquedia
Reyes and Tania Castro-Acosta run the cameras, video mixer and
sound system - - that kind of equipment is a challenge for
any adult to operate. Tune in and we will load sample clips of
the morning announcements from time to time.

Honors
students were celebrated on November 13, 2007 with an
assembly in the gymnasium. Parents and teachers alike
were invited to see their child honored with
rewards. Students who managed to get a 4.0 were rewarded
with a trophy and a medal along with a certificate.
Principal Fossett even rewarded people who had a 2.5-2.9
GPA. This reward was called "On the roll".

Mr. Wilson has been teaching at Thurgood
Marshall Middle School for several years and he knows how to
keep his students interested in the "wonders of science."
If you are looking for Mr. Wilson, you might find him outside,
in front of the school. He will probably be teaching thirty or
more students about the different species of plants. Or you
might find him in the courtyard trimming trees, planting more
flowers, or maintaining our fully stocked manmade pond. He is a
great teacher who has influenced many future scientists, doctors
and lawyers. Thank you Mr. Wilson for making Thurgood Marshall
Middle School a better place to work, study and have fun.

Thurgood Marshall
Middle School was selected to participate in the
"Gilbert Scores for Schools Program." These lucky
students met NBA star, Gilbert Arenas because of their
outstanding grades and superb behavior. Thurgood
Marshall Middle School also received $3,000 because
Gilbert Arenas scored 30 points against the
Indiana Pacers on November 14th. What an honor and
thanks Ms. Hawkins, School Counselor (3rd from the left)
for your dedication and support.

"Positive
Behavior in Schools" or "PBIS" is a program designed to
reward those students whom do the right thing. In this
case, Thurgood Marshall students enjoyed a period of
roller skating to music. Students who follow the rules
can look forward to other rewards like watching the
"Teachers versus Students" basketball game or
participating in school dances and sporting events. What
a great idea and it looks like the students are having a
great time. Ms. Fossett said "This year wear are going
to reward and recognize those students who do the right
thing." Students Beware...stay off the "no-go list."
