How you can communicate to a child that is non-verbal

At Margaret Brent we use a multimodal approach that may include picture communication symbols, topic boards, American Sign Language and/or augmentative output devices.  We are providing you with a list of picture communication symbols and signs commonly used throughout our school with our students.  These are alternative techniques that may assist or provide a student the means to communicate.

Picture Communication System (PCS)

These are images produced to allow students to use pictures to communicate.

American Sign Language

These are hand signal language designed for the deaf.  These allow students to use their hands to communicate.
