Guidance and
Counseling Services
at MLK

The Guidance and Counseling Department offers individual and group counseling for study skills, interpersonal relationships and decision-making. Counselors also provide classroom lessons pertaining to learning styles, graduation requirements, and problem-solving.

Counselors provide assistance with parent workshops pertaining to adolescents and help coordinate Career /College Days and Volunteer Fairs.

Work Permits

Students MUST be 14 years old in order to request a work permit.  A parent may request a work permit  from the guidance secretary. The work permit must be signed by the potential employer before the school signs off and processes the request.  A work permit is not a job application.

    Service Learning

Community Service ideas are in the Agenda book and forms are available in Guidance. Students should  begin  now to collect the 36 hours required for graduation from high school

Homework Requests

For illness of  three days or more, homework may be requested through Guidance. Please call at least 48 hours in advance.

A Thought

Our children are our most important guests, who enter into our home, ask for careful attention, stay for a while and then leave to follow  their own way.

Science and Technology Testing

The test is in December. Watch for specific information in the MLK newsletter.

Requests for Transcripts for Private Schools

Please allow 2-3 weeks notice for transcripts to be sent to private schools. Also please be sure to fill out the information on the student before giving it to Guidance. Include a stamped envelope for mailing.
