Oxon Hill Middle School Guidance Department

Welcome to the best middle school in Prince George’s County.  The Guidance Department would like to inform students and parents of the programs and services offered here at Oxon Hill Middle School.  Our primary goal is to assist and encourage self-understanding, responsibility and self-direction for our students.  It is our hope that students and parents will feel free to contact us for any support, information or assistance needed.

During the upcoming year, the following services will be offered by the counselors here at Oxon Hill Middle School:

  • Counselors will meet with classroom groups to acclimate students to the guidance program, services, and facilities.

  • Parent/Teacher meetings will be used to communicate information about students’ behavior and academic progress during the school year.

  • Small groups will be formed as needed for specific short term counseling for some students.

  • The counselor will serve as a resource person for teachers and students and will assist with appropriate student placement based on classroom achievement, course selection, and registration for the 2007 - 2008 school year.

  • The guidance department will present the annual Career Day along with other activities to encourage students to consider colleges, careers, and other post secondary educational plans.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Guidance Department at 301-749-4284.

Important Information from Guidance

We are very excited about this school year and we look forward to working with your children as they attend the best middle school in Prince George’s County. Parents are encouraged to contact counselors through the following email address: barbara.forde@pgcps.org  and michelle.countee@pgcps.org.

Daily Progress Reports

Daily progress reports are available through the guidance office.  If you are interested in having your child receive a daily progress report, please have your child see his/her counselor before or after school.  These forms are an excellent form of communication between parents and teachers.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parents interested in meeting with teachers need to contact the appropriate grade level counselor to schedule an appointment.

Meeting with Counselors

Parents who would like to meet with counselors are asked to call and schedule an appointment as opposed to walk-ins to ensure that the counselor is available.

Student Service Learning

Students are encouraged to complete their 36 clock hours of students service work prior to entering high school.  Completion of these hours fulfills one of the high school graduation requirements.  Students can pick up information from the guidance office.
