Mandatory Uniform Policy
The PTSA adopted a mandatory uniform policy at Oxon Hill Middle School (OHMS) in accordance with the Prince George’s County Policy #0600 effective February 4, 2002. We understand that this is a team effort and that it will take the students, parents, and staff to make this initiative successful. Furthermore, uniforms help to produce a positive school climate, thus promoting a quality-learning environment and every student is expected to adhere to this mandated policy.
However, during this summer, many parents have shared concerns about the cost of logo shirts, therefore, in a decision-making partnership with the PTSA it was determined that logo shirts will not be a requirement, but an option for the 2006-2007 school year. However, the colors and other clothing items have not changed. The uniform items can be purchased at a local retail store of your choice. Please ensure that the style of shirts, pants, and shoes are in compliance with the uniform mandate. Enclosed, you will find information regarding ordering logo shirts and clear plastic book bags from Citywide Promotions as an option. Dress Code:Girls: Ø White or navy blue golf shirt. When a teacher/staff feels he/she has tried to work with a student concerning a uniform violation, but has been unsuccessful, the following steps will be taken. These procedures have been established by the Board of Education for persistent violations. According to the Board of Education, the violations have been modified for the 2006-2007 school year.
Violation 1: The child’s teacher will give him/her the infraction notification warning letter to be signed by a parent and returned to school the next day. If the grade level administrator before homeroom does not receive the letter, the student will automatically receive administrative detention. If the child fails to attend administrative detention he/she will be placed in the Alternative Learning Center (In-School Suspension) for one day.
Violation 2: The child’s administrator will contact the parent and the student will be assigned two days in the Alternative Learning Center.
Violation 3: According to the Board of Education’s modification of policy #0600, students that violate the mandatory uniform policy after the second time will be deemed as persistent disobedient and will be disciplined in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct.
~The “Opt-out” process has been eliminated by the Board of Education~
